HÔTEL DU NORD
By entering there, you’ll wonder if you’re not back to the 1930s. From its décor (zinc bar, black and white tiles, pictures of the film “Hotel du Nord”…), it feels like a whole other world! The cuisine is well done, dishes well presented. The service is sometimes a bit busy, but always smiling. The atmosphere is friendly and for the sunny days, a terrace is set along the Canal Saint Martin. A brunch is also served on Sundays and national holidays, from 12am to 4pm.

LES ENFANTS PERDUS
A good address in the Canal Saint Martin area, where you’ll find a traditional and tasty food. Either in the first room with a wall painted as a comic strip, or in the second at the back on the bench seat with big cushions, you will find the place comfortable and cosy. The Sunday brunch offers a 3-part menu at 27€. Don’t forget to try the “pain perdu” (French toast).

SISENG
Have you heard of a “bao burger”? It’s an Asian-inspired burger, with a white steamed bun and filled with 5-spice-marinated beef or Japanese pan-fried chicken tempura. This food-bar, with its high tables and stools and casual ambiance really brings you to South-East Asia: tempura, bo bun, spring rolls, noodle soups, not to mention the Japanese whiskies and exotic cocktails.

TERMINUS NORD
This vast brasserie facing Gare du Nord dates back to 1925 and is the archetype of the Parisian “Art Nouveau”-style institution. Along with paintings of the Roaring Twenties, leather bench seats, outdoor oyster bar, you’ll find a pleasant and efficient staff. On the menu, you will taste the traditional sauerkraut, sole meuniere or chateaubriand beef fillet.

KASHMIR HOUSE
Away from the hustle and bustle of the North and East railway stations, this is the Indian restaurant that you were looking for. An unmatched value for money, excellent flavours (superb bartha curry!) and as a bonus: live Indian music. How not to be transported? Efficient and friendly service, receptive and English-speaking staff. After two visits this year, I have never been disappointed.

LE COMPTOIR GÉNÉRAL
This unusual bar-restaurant has a very off-the-wall and (fake) colonial atmosphere, with African presidents’ portraits, for a warehouse of curiosities of 600m²! Walk around the different rooms in a warm and rather chaotic ambiance, chat with people on the terrace or taste an African-style dish on a vintage canteen table. Expect quite a lot of queue in the evening during the weekend.

TEN BELLES
The baristas of this tiny café with a mezzanine on the other side of the canal will make you discover their unique coffee grains, and draw on the foam of your cappuccino. They serve some tasty sandwiches, salads and British pastries. Try the banana cake, a safe bet!

DU PAIN ET DES IDÉES
This old bakery from 1870 is undoubtedly the best in Paris. It features a painted glass ceiling, wall mirrors for a very authentic style. You will find a large selection of traditional breads, as well as delicious and subtly crispy pastries such as their various rolls (called “escargot” – snails), butter or chocolate croissants. A must go.
